Audios confirm that the President of Ecuador was aware of the corruption

The recordings contain a conversation between Generals of the National Police Giovanni Ponce and Mauro Vargas, who decided to close the report of the great godfather so as not to affect the Ecuadorean president.

Dubbed Caso Encuentro by the prosecutor’s office, the report includes the government’s possible links to an alleged network of corruption in public companies led by The Great Godfather, as they named Danilo Carrera, Lasso’s son-in-law.

In another audio recording revealed by La Posta newspaper this Tuesday, the former police chief, Tania Varela, confirmed that the governor of the Andean region was aware of the report regarding links between the Albanian mafia and his inner circle.

For her part, Assemblywoman Viviana Fellowes on Monday denounced Laso’s knowledge of corruption in public companies a year ago.

According to Fellowes, on March 22, 2022, the former director of the public company Flota Petrolera Aquaturiana (Flubic), Johnny Estupinian, sent a letter to the head of state to warn of acts of corruption in this public company.

According to Veloz, in Estupinian’s letter he denounced that Hernán Luc Licaro, who led the board of directors of the Public Company Coordination Company, had devised a scheme to illegally profit from the oil company’s resources.

The document – said Fellowes – also describes numerous irregularities in some of that company’s contracts, which is why Estupinan warned that all shipping agreements Flopec had with foreign companies should be reviewed.

Fellowes also warned that, for denouncing these events, Hernán Luc Lecaro asked Johnny Estupinan to resign.

The saga of corruption has weakened the government of Guillermo Laso, who stands at the gates of a political trial on charges of omission of crimes against state security and public administration.

While Ecuadorians continue to await the formal submission of the judicial process request after the National Assembly approved a report with that recommendation last week, the executive branch denies the charges as destabilizing attempts and receives the support of the Organization of American States (OAS) and allied nations.

On the other hand, many social and political organizations join the demands to push the end of Lasso’s tenure through constitutional means.
