Santiago de Chile, December 12 (Prensa Latina) Argentine sociologist Attilio Boron stressed today that it is unlikely that a real democratic project will continue in Latin America and in the world, with the concentration of media in the hands of big capital.
In a conversation with the University of Chile radio program Radioanalisis, Boron described as complex the regional scenario of the new wave of progressive governments, which he described as much more benign than its predecessor.
“I have the thesis that if there is no democracy in the field of communication media, to include in this category not only illustrated journalism but also radio and television, it is very unlikely for me that a genuine democratic project will continue,” he said.
He explained that with the new communication and propaganda techniques, today there are people who are deeply affected by the message coming from the media.
To this, he said, should be added the spread of fake news (fake news) and studies through which the general public tends to believe lies more than the truth.
The Argentine thinker also referred to the political scene in South America after the events in Peru, by dismissing President Pedro Castillo, and in Argentina by condemning Vice President Cristina Fernandez.
They are two different cases, he warned, and explained that in Peru it is about reacting to a government that emerged from a process that was tightly controlled by the great powers present and where the president must obtain the approval of parliament if he wants to complete the cabinet.
He emphasized that in the case of Argentina, we are facing a re-foundational project that the right has been joking with for many years, a right that revolves around the personality of Mauricio Macri.
Regarding the new wave of progressive governments in the region, he said that now the international context is different, much changed and more threatening.
