Article: Conclusion of the 22nd Meeting of Heads of Medical Missions

Claudia María Delgado Torres (Photo: Author) – ACN.- After days of exchanges on the work of health workers abroad, the 22nd Meeting of Heads of Medical Missions Abroad concluded today, at the headquarters of the Central Unit for Medical Cooperation (UCCM), of this city.


As usual, the Cuban Medical Cooperation Yearbook was presented in 2023, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the founding of the UCCM, a comprehensive work detailing the work of Cuban health brigades around the world and honoring the revolutionary army commander José Machado Ventura, who was Minister of Public Health from 1960 to 1968.

Its director, Felipe de Jesus Delgado Bustillo, told those present that this magazine reflects a defense of Cuban medical cooperation in the face of distorted media campaigns promoted by the North American government, and demonstrates its work and commitment to global health, with the presence of more than 37,000 collaborators in 59 countries.

He pointed out that for the second time it is being printed translated into Italian, firstly because of the arrival of Cuban doctors to regions of Italy to combat Covid-19 and because of the arrival of a new batch of doctors to the Calabria region, and to highlight the presence of women in the field of medical cooperation.

Dr. Michael Cabrera Laza, Director of UCCM, stated that in this meeting with the heads of missions, 14 conferences were held related to the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030, the distinctive features of the political-ideological subversion towards Cuba and the health sector, the international epidemiological situation, academic training and professional improvement, advances in Cuban biotechnology and management of communications on social networks.

On this occasion, the invitation to the V Cuba Health Congress and its associated exhibitions was launched, the Mariel Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center was visited and meetings were held with the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health to learn about the work guidelines based on the unity and improvement of ideological-political work, economic development and measures to eliminate deformities, and the new Charter of Ethics for Cadres was signed.

The Director noted the participation of 341 delegates from all over the country and the adoption of 37 agreements that will be incorporated into the UCCM working system.

At the proposal of the National Union of Health Workers, the Central Workers of Cuba delivered the 85th Anniversary Seal to the said entity, an institution charged with managing highly qualified human capital, scientific and technical development, high human values ​​and ethics. The basic principles to fulfill the international commitments undertaken by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of Cuba with other countries of the world.

The Cuban Medical Brigades in Algeria, China, Djibouti, Dominica, Gambia, Guatemala, Guinea-Bissau, Italy, Qatar, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Lucia, Uruguay and Venezuela were recognized by MENASAB for their discipline, organization and efficiency in carrying out their work from July 2023 to June 2024.

The meeting was attended by Susili Morfa González, member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and head of the Social Welfare Department, Jorge Luis Perdomo de Lela, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health, Tania Margarita Cruz Hernández, First Deputy Minister of Public Health, and Santiago Badia González, Secretary General of the National Union of Health Workers.
