Argentina once again urges the United Kingdom to resume negotiations on the Malvinas Islands
This claim, made by the Argentine Foreign Minister, Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic, highlighted Downing Street’s recent decision to abide by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2066, which ordered the end of British control of the Chagos Archipelago. It is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
The national government, once again, urged the United Kingdom on Thursday to resume negotiations for sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding sea areas, after London expressed its intention to comply with its international obligations and negotiate with the Republic. Mauritius The Chagos Archipelago has been under its rule since 1965.
The new call for the UK to resume negotiations was made via Twitter by Argentine Foreign Minister, Guillermo Carmona, the Malvinas, Antarctic and South Atlantic Minister, who highlighted Downing Street’s latest decision to abide by Resolution 2066 of the year. The assembly of the United Nations ordered the end of British control of the Chagos archipelago, located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and the return of the disputed group of islands to Mauritius.
Carmona wrote on the social network after learning of the British decision, to later indicate that “in the same way they must comply with Resolution 2065 on the question of Malvinas.”
