Argentina calls for a summit of the Americas without exception

BUENOS AIRES, May 20 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine government is demanding that all countries in the region attend the Ninth Summit of the Americas, scheduled for June in Los Angeles, in the United States, Casa Rosada spokeswoman Gabriela Cerruti said. .

In statements to the press, the spokeswoman said that President Alberto Fernandez appreciates his participation in the event, from which Washington excluded Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

He added that in addition to defending the participation of these countries, Argentina believes that the US president, Joe Biden, should have a dialogue with Latin America as a whole.

During his visit to Germany, as part of a recent tour of Europe, Fernandez urged the event’s organizers to reconsider their position.

For his part, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero stated that he had sent an official note to the United States to demand that a summit be held without exceptions.

Everyone must participate. He said the issue had already been raised before the event was organized, when the working groups met.

Earlier this month, the Latin American and Caribbean Community, whose interim presidency occupies this South American country, criticized the Biden administration’s behavior, which prevents “hemisphere voices from being heard and spoken.”

The Summit represents a great opportunity to build a meeting space in which all countries participate in an open and inclusive manner, within the framework of the unified objective of coordinating joint actions, notes a statement issued by the said entity.

In addition, he notes that the severe consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in the region show that dialogue and cooperation are essential tools for the well-being of peoples.
