London, April 7 (EFE). Liverpool players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita received racist insults on social media after losing 3-1 to Real Madrid.
Both footballers are victims of racist insults on Instagram. Keita received the emoji for the monkeys in a post for Liverpool before the match, while Alexander Arnold received the same emoticons in his post on Sunday.
A Liverpool spokesman said the club was “investigating horrific racist abuse” he received after the match against Real Madrid.
“It is totally unacceptable and it must stop. Liverpool condemns all kinds of discrimination and we will continue to work on inclusion,” the spokesman said.
Racial abuse of footballers on social media has become a common practice in the UK and some celebrities like Thierry Henry have responded by closing their accounts until the issue is resolved.
The English Premier League, in conjunction with other English football organizations, a few months ago requested an effective response on social media platforms to avoid the constant abuse of players.
