A fire in a warehouse and car workshop in the northern German city of Hamburg sent out a cloud of toxic gases that forced more than 100 people to evacuate on Sunday. The fire broke out last morning in a closed area in the district of Rothenburg-Sort, which is located about 5 kilometers from the city center.
From the first hour, the event was alerted and 140 residents of that area were expelled. However, in the following hours it was observed that the cloud was moving rapidly towards the center of this coastal city, as the Hamburg police warned residents.
The authorities called on the people to close the doors and windows of their homes. Meanwhile, an operation of 200 firefighters attempted to put out the fire at the factory. The warning is directed to the entire center of Hamburg and to practically the suburbs, with the warning that dangerous chemicals are present at the scene.
