Dr. Jenny Edward Pierre Lis and her son Noha Sasha Pierre Lis was kidnapped from their home last Saturday, and the Foundation decided to stop providing services in all of its facilities “until their release”.
The affected entities are St-Damien Hospital, in the town of Tabarre, which will only treat extreme emergencies; Saint-Germain’s Center for the Disabled, as well as the Watson Angels of Light and Helène schools in Kenskoff.
A few months ago, the organization also closed its doors after another employee was stolen, on that occasion highlighting the importance of its centers to the most vulnerable populations.
Cases like this have recurred in recent months, forcing more than five hospitals to slow down or suspend their services.
Last Saturday, President Juvenil Moussa criticized the political nature of the kidnappings and warned against placing the perpetrators behind bars.
“When they are arrested, we will not talk about political persecution,” the head of state said on the sidelines of the opening of the Marion Dam, adding that 80 percent of these kidnappings are of a political nature.
Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph made similar statements, as the practices relate to the electoral process and the general elections promoted by the government.
The Center for Human Rights Analysis and Research recently revealed that in the first quarter of the year at least 157 people were kidnapped, including minors who were sexually assaulted. The agency indicated that the number doubled the number of registrants in the same period in 2020.
