The UK and Ireland will host the Euro 2028 football tournament.

UEFA has confirmed that the United Kingdom and Ireland will host Euro 2028, and that Italy and Turkey will host the 2032 edition.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced today, Tuesday (2023/10/10), that the United Kingdom and Ireland will host the 2028 European Championship, while Italy and Turkey will organize the 2032 edition.

With the joint bid between Italy and Turkey to host Euro 2032 accepted last week, and Turkey withdrawing from the race for Euro 2028, the venues for both tournaments have already been decided by European football’s governing body.

However, both bids still need final approval from UEFA’s executive committee, which met on Tuesday.

“Nothing is a formality until the last minute,” said Debbie Hewitt, chairwoman of the FA. “We don’t take anything for granted.”

Euro 2028 will be the largest sporting event ever jointly organised by the UK and Ireland.

In contrast, former Welsh international Gareth Bale, who retired from football last January, stressed that the tournament would boost the sport in Wales.

“I think it’s important, especially for Wales, to stay on the map, keep moving forward, keep trying and improving ourselves,” he said.

The successor venues for Germany 2024 were announced at a short ceremony hosted by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

The elections confirm the trend adopted by major sporting competitions, with joint organisation by several countries to make these projects viable.
