New Presidential Race Poll Gives Kamala Harris the Edge – Telemundo Miami (51)

A week before the local primaries, and a week before the national Democratic National Convention, enthusiasm is running high among Democrats in South Florida and across the country, and they are arriving with great energy, polls indicate.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz have been campaigning in key states, and on Saturday they addressed about 12,000 supporters in Las Vegas.

“We know this is going to be a close election right up until the end,” Harris said. “So don’t pay too much attention to the polls. Voter turnout is going to be key.”

A new poll shows the vice president leading former President Donald Trump in three key states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Harris has 50 percent and Trump has 46 percent, within the margin of error.

“I would rather run against her, and I think she would be easier to beat,” the former president said.

While Miami-Dade Democratic strategist Christian Olfert insists that won’t be the case, he says: “What we’re seeing is a lot of enthusiasm for the vice president, which is also something we didn’t expect as Democrats, we’re not known as a party that comes together in 48 hours. (But) the minute Biden came out, we came together very strongly and we came together very strongly with great enthusiasm for the vice president.”

The poll was conducted August 5-9, and Republican strategists expect the enthusiasm to be temporary.

“What you’re seeing is a honeymoon for Kamala Harris. Until they see who she is, what her career is, who Tim Walz is. And when they see that she’s the most liberal candidate in American history, they’re going to reject those failed policies of the left,” said Kevin Marino Cabrera, a strategist for Donald Trump’s campaign.
