On Friday, July 19, the National Polytechnic Institute’s Center for Advanced Research and Studies announced the researchers who won the Cinvestiv National Science Award.
Among the winners was Dr. Refugio Rodriguez Vazquez, from the Department of Biotechnology and Bioengineering, who during the award ceremony gave a few words of thanks for the distinction granted.
Over the course of a decade, Cinvestav has implemented a series of actions aimed at rehabilitating the soil and water of the Chinampera area of Xochimilco that could be replicated in different states of the Mexican Republic. In reporting that Photovoltaic Journal Published on August 9, the researcher in her study on the Chinambira area uses biofiltration technology, accelerated composting of manure, oxygenation of water by nanobubbles, soil salinization with orange waste, and sustainable wastewater treatment plants with energy generated by photovoltaic technology.
“Chinampas (traditional agricultural island systems) are of utmost importance in the Xochimilco region, meeting the food needs of approximately 228,000 people; however, the water bodies in that place contain residual discharges, where large amounts of pollutants can be found,” said Karen Flores Trujillo, a postdoctoral researcher at Cinvestav, who highlighted the importance of the research work of the Refugio Rodríguez Vázquez, last August.
