Bilbao, July 19. (European Press) –
Imanol Pradales, a Lindacari, defended that “the humanities, culture, arts and social sciences are the fundamental pillars of society,” stressing that “it would be impossible to move forward without them,” because “they define us north, so that we do not get lost along the way.
The President of the Basque Country attended the Eusko Ikaskuntza-Laboral Kutxa 2024 Awards ceremony on Friday, held at the Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao. The winners of this edition are Maite Aizpurua, Jarazi Navas and Itziar Laca, the executive director said.
In his speech, Pradalis stressed the importance of rewarding people who excel in these disciplines “and giving fair recognition to their contribution, because they do so on behalf of the entire Basque community.”
In this sense, he wanted to highlight the prestige given to the winners of previous editions of these awards, as well as to thank the work done by those who make up the jury.
Pradalis also addressed the three women honored in this edition, whose efforts he recognized. She said: “The three winners have tried to recognize and define the special identity of our country. You have shown courage, enthusiasm and desire to continue on this path.”
Maite Aizpurua and Jarazi Navas received the Gaztea Prize for their work “Adarbakarra eta soinujolea,” a proposal described by Lindakari as “new, innovative and young; a clear example of creativity.”
For its part, the 2024 Josko Icascontza-Laboral Cotxa Prize for Humanities, Culture, Arts and Social Sciences went to Itziar Laca, “in recognition of her professional and academic career and in appreciation of the desire and leadership she has shown in the field of research and innovation in the field of language.”
Furthermore, Pradalis wanted to make special mention of what he considered Laca’s most notable contribution: “Gogo Elebiduna / La Mente Bilingüe / The Bilingual Mind”.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Science, Universities and Innovation, Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, and representatives of different institutions, among them the Minister of Navarre in Euskera, Ana Olo, whom Lindacari wanted to thank for her participation.
