Doctors, nurses and administrators protested the lack of materials and their suffering from a lack of care for beneficiaries.
The dismissal of two people involved in providing supplies is the response to doctors, nurses and workers at the Hospital of Zone 34 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) who protested because they did not have what they needed to attend to the right.
They say the state leadership at IMSS was committed to addressing by August 1 the shortage of medicines and medical supplies, the broken air conditioning system and other shortcomings that prevent protesters from doing their job properly and providing adequate care to patients with social security.
However, the doctors and nurses who carried out the protests doubt that the IMSS commitment will be fulfilled because elections for new union representatives will be held on July 29, and they feel that the Social Security response is just to buy time and divert attention.
Dr. Leticia Vázquez, one of 30 people who stood on two occasions in recent weeks outside IMSS Clinic 34 in Valentín Fuentes to protest the aforementioned shortage, spoke about the official response they received from the federal health institution.
“In the response they gave us, it said that thanks to the protests they removed two people, I don’t know their positions or names, but they were part of the supply release crew, and that as of August 1, the doctor said, ‘We will have all the necessary supplies.’”
She commented that the response came from the director of Clinic 34, Angel Silva, with a notice that she said was sent to representatives of the clinic’s union, which she said she had a meeting about with other opponents.
“We were analyzing it and we realized that they gave us some supplies, but in small quantities, not the total of what we asked for, but we give confidence on August 1, because we have already held out for a long time and this is something real,” Vazquez declared.
He said it was difficult to have full confidence because the response to the solution to the problem was only verbal and there was no official document supporting the commitment made by IMSS.
“If they do not comply by August 1, of course we will make another protest, because in this case there are elections in Social Security, which are scheduled to elect a state delegate on July 29, and that is why we also doubt the date,” Dr. Vázquez announced.
“On July 29, the current delegate, Gerardo de León Arellano, will end his term, and he has not given us any answers or shown us his face, far from it, so we have to wait,” he said.
