Madrid, July 15 (European Press) –
US technology company InterDigital and UK patent licensing platform Avanci have managed to convince a British court to dismiss a lawsuit filed in London by US electric car manufacturer Tesla over the licensing of patents for 5G-connected vehicles.
The company founded by Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against InterDigital and Avanci in London’s High Court in 2023.
Specifically, Tesla sought relief to determine the “fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory” terms of the automaker’s license to use InterDigital’s patents granted by Avanci.
Tesla’s lawyers have argued in several court documents that a hearing is needed in light of the “imminent launch” of 5G vehicles in the UK.
However, InterDigital and Avanci have asked the court to reject Tesla’s request to use their patents in new vehicles, claiming the manufacturer has violated contractual terms.
Tesla 5G Connection
Tesla has been working for years to implement 5G connectivity in its next-generation vehicles to develop a system that ensures a good connectivity experience.
In fact, within the manufacturer’s strategic plans, it is considering creating its own 5G network that would allow it to connect outside the vehicles with other technological solutions of the company such as Optimus, the humanoid robot that is still in development.
