Mexico falls to the United States

The individual result was enough to extend Tri Femenil’s winless streak.

NEW JERSEY – The Mexican women’s national soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to the United States in a friendly on Saturday in New Jersey.

Sophia Smith’s solo goal in the extra-time was enough to extend Mexico’s winless streak, which has not won since the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup W, thus accumulating six matches without a win.

In the 63rd minute, the Stars and Stripes team secured their victory with a goal scored by Smith, who managed to get rid of Karen Luna’s mark to set up strongly and shoot the ball into the corner of the box defended by Estefan Barreras.

Mexico is going through a bad run of results, adding its sixth match without a win. The team’s last victory was against Paraguay 3-2 in the Gold Cup quarter-finals, after which the Tris Femenil team lost to Brazil 3-0 in the semi-finals of the tournament, then lost in two friendly matches against Colombia (1-0), Australia (0-2) and Canada (2-0), and also drew with them (1-1).

This was the United States’ final commitment before leaving for France for what will be its participation in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
