The meeting, which will be held virtually, will address Angola’s role in mediation and reconciliation in the clashes taking place in the east of the African country, a Foreign Ministry memo said.
Angola is the African Union-appointed mediator in the conflict in which the DRC is facing more than 120 armed groups, but particularly the March 23 Movement (M23), which receives support from Rwanda.
Tensions between the two countries have recently increased due to the strong offensive launched by the M23 movement, which has occupied several towns and villages in North Kivu province and seized important mineral resources.
On 11 July, the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo called on the international community to impose strict political, economic and judicial sanctions against Rwanda and its leaders for the attacks on its territory.
The spokesman for the executive authority and Minister of Communications and Information, Patrick Muyaya, called for the punishment of the neighboring country, which not only supports the M23 rebels, but is also actively involved in the conflict in the east of the country, as revealed in a recent report by UN experts.
Muyaya referred to the report submitted to the UN Security Council, which states that between three and four thousand Rwandan Defence Forces personnel are deployed in Congolese territory alongside the M23 movement.
The report notes that this armed group, backed by Kigali, also includes minors and people recruited, especially by force, in occupied towns and refugee camps in Rwanda and Uganda.
The document included that Rwanda was no longer limited to providing simple support to the operations of the M23 in the territories of Rutshuru, Masisi and Nyiragongo, but that Roosevelt’s participation was direct and decisive, in addition to providing support with advanced military technology and equipment.
Added to this panoramic scene is the violation of the humanitarian truce only a week after it was declared on July 5.
