In a symbolic ceremony, Angeles Valle Oriente Hospital inaugurated the new Center for Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Nutrition. A medical unit that since 2004 has been staffed by medical professionals specialized in providing multidisciplinary and comprehensive care to patients with diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary tract.
The ceremony was attended by Eng. Santiago Canales Gonzalez, General Director of Angeles Valle Oriente Hospital; Dr. Jesús Zacarías Villarreal Pérez, Medical Director of the Hospital; and Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Montalvo, Representative of the Center for Hepatology, Gastroenterology and Nutrition.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Canales Gonzalez highlighted the importance of having a center like this, and also emphasized the hospital’s commitment to innovation in healthcare.

For his part, Dr. Villarreal Perez highlighted the path and specialization of the medical team that forms part of this medical unit, which has worked continuously for two decades to provide valuable service to patients. The Center for Liver, Gastroenterology and Nutrition is staffed with board-certified specialists in liver and pancreas surgery and transplantation, minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, gastroenterology, hepatology, perioperative medicine, clinical nutrition, and interventional radiology. A multidisciplinary team will be available to patients.
“We are experts in the management of diseases such as fatty liver, acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and its complications, benign tumors and liver cancer, as well as benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas and biliary tract,” said Dr. Rodriguez Montalvo. Likewise, he mentioned that the multidisciplinary care model, the Tumor Board, allows for the evaluation of tumor cases and the generation of personalized treatment strategies to improve outcomes.

In recent years, they have implemented the CELLA Surgical Planner artificial intelligence software, which visualizes in 3D CT or MRI images, intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) and fluorescence technology with IG (indocyanine green) for liver and kidney surgeries.
Another innovation is the FIBROSCAN device, which allows the non-invasive assessment of the presence of fat and fibrosis in the liver, which is essential for the early diagnosis of steatosis and reversible fibrosis, as well as the prevention of liver cirrhosis.
