The UK unemployment rate rose slightly again and stood at 4.4% in the quarter to the end of April, a tenth higher than it was at the end of March, according to official data published on Tuesday.

This indicator has not stopped growing since the end of 2023, reaching 3.8% according to data from the National Statistics Office.

The Office for National Statistics indicated in its report that “the unemployment rate has risen globally” since the second half of 2022, “despite a period of decline in the second half” of the previous year.

But the office’s data also shows that the number of job vacancies in the period from March to May rose to 904,000 compared to the previous month, indicating that many companies are seeking to hire workers in vain.

On the other hand, the percentage increase in salaries, excluding bonuses, stabilized at 6%, as in the previous report.

The increase accelerated in real terms, taking inflation into account, to 2.9%.

These figures are closely followed by the Bank of England, which for several months has maintained its guidance interest rate at a high level, 5.25%, to bring inflation down to its 2% target, and could begin to ease its monetary policy in the future. Months.

Inflation in the country slowed sharply in April, falling to 2.3% year-on-year, its lowest level since July 2021.
