The first seven people were selected to serve on the jury in former President Donald Trump's trial in New York on Tuesday after demonstrating to both sides that they could deliver a fair and impartial verdict.
They were selected on the second day of the trial, after prosecutors and the defense team narrowed down a pool of 96 potential jurors.
At one point, state Judge Juan Merchan admonished Trump after he saw him say something loudly in the direction of a juror, who was asked about a social media post he made on the day Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 election.
“I will not tolerate that,” Merchan said. “I will not allow any juror to be intimidated in this courtroom.” Trump's lawyers eventually removed the woman from the jury.
The seven selected so far were sworn in on Tuesday and Merchan ordered them to return to court on Monday.
Twelve people will be part of the jury and each side will choose alternates. The trial is expected to last up to eight weeks.
