Netflix, one of the platforms flow The largest in the world, it has signed a partnership with American wrestling company World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for weekly broadcasts of its flagship program Monday Night Raw starting in January 2025.
The 10-year deal is worth more than $5 billion, and Netflix will have the option to exit after five years and extend it for another decade if it chooses, according to the documents.
The alliance will make it easier for Netflix to stream Raw in the US, Canada, the UK and Latin America, among other territories that will be added over time. In addition, Netflix will host all WWE shows and specials outside the United States, such as “SmackDown” and “NXT,” as well as “WrestleMania,” “SummerSlam,” and “Royal Rumble.”
“We are excited to have WWE Raw, with its massive, multi-generational fanbase, on Netflix,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, said in a statement. “By combining our reach, recommendations and fan base with WWE, we will be able to bring more joy and value to their fans and our members. Raw is the best in sports entertainment, combining great characters, storytelling and live action 52 weeks a year. And we” We are thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE.”
For TKO, the parent company of WWE, a deal with Netflix brings WWE wrestling to about 250 million subscribers worldwide.
“This transaction is transformative,” Mark Shapiro, president and chief operating officer of TKO, said in a statement. “It combines WWE's must-see product with Netflix's exceptional global reach and ensures significant, predictable economics for many years to come. Our partnership fundamentally changes and enhances the media landscape, dramatically expanding WWE's reach and bringing live weekly schedule viewing to everyone. Netflix.”
After the announcement, TKO Group Holdings shares rose 15.3% and Netflix shares rose 0.9%.
It is not yet clear whether WWE's agreement with Netflix will include Mexico, as the company's weekly programming currently airs on Fox Sports Mexico channels on various pay TV platforms, and premium live events on the channel are also available with a Fox Sports Premium subscription.
