Hanoi, February 15 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam's President, Vu Van Thuong, today praised the country's reforestation efforts, as he opened a tree planting festival in honor of independence hero Ho Chi Minh.
The President stressed that this Uncle Ho initiative, which appeared more than six decades ago, has become a tradition, custom, cultural beauty, as well as a movement that brings great benefits to the country.
Van Thong said that this movement has contributed to protecting the ecological environment and landscape, responding to climate change, promoting social and economic development and improving the quality of life of residents.
The Vietnamese Head of State noted that until last year, 260,000 hectares of concentrated planted forests and 127 million scattered trees had been recorded, with a forest coverage rate of more than 42 percent.
In a context characterized by increasingly severe global climate change and declining biodiversity, Vietnam's consistent policy focuses on promoting sustainable development and responding to these problems, in order to build a green, circular and environmentally friendly economy.
Vietnam is gradually fulfilling, with the support of developed countries in matters of technology and finance, its strong commitments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, Van Thong confirmed, quoted by the VNA news agency.
He stressed that the task of protecting the environment, planting trees and protecting forests is gaining increasing importance.
At the same event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri highlighted that in the period 2021-2023, nearly 770 million trees were planted in the country, in response to the Billion Tree Planting Project in the period 2021-2025. .
