Polls close for the presidential elections in El Salvador

San Salvador, January 4 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador closed polling stations for the presidential and Legislative Assembly elections today at 5:00 pm local time, according to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

One of the last activities of the day was the vote and short press conference of President Nayib Bukele, who, according to most predictions, should sweep the elections to remain in power for another five years.

Many Salvadorans who arrived late but were in line to vote could still vote in an election that has been described as historic for the sole fact that for the first time in nearly 80 years, a governor sought to continue to lead the country continuously.

According to reports from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), as of the lockdown, the computer system for transmitting election day results was reset to zero.

There are only a few minutes left until the presidential and legislative elections are over, and the Supreme Electoral Court is preparing to transmit and process the results. Throughout Election Day there were some problems at voting centers.

The first electoral day in El Salvador began at 07:00 local time, Sunday, February 4, in which five million 473 thousand and 305 Salvadorans are expected to participate to cast their presidential and legislative votes.

The process of resetting the system to zero was headed by the head of the Computer Systems Unit of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Ignacio Villagran.

This protocol law “will show that our database, in the infrastructure, is completely zero,” meaning that no data is stored in the transmission system and “that transparency in the electoral process is guaranteed.”

On the other hand, a few minutes after the closing, according to the election monitoring body, and until 10:00 this morning, 201,010 votes were counted via the online voting method from abroad. As for representatives, there is a difference of 20,308 between the elections, out of more than 700,000 registered people.

Now we just have to wait for the final results that the Tokyo Stock Exchange will announce tonight.
