A party boat sank in London amid heavy rain and flooding in the capital

(CNN) — A party boat sank in the River Thames in central London amid heavy rain and flooding in the British capital.

Bar & Co, a two-story restaurant and nightclub overlooking the London Eye and Big Ben, sank Thursday afternoon, an employee told CNN on Friday.

Britain's Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) told CNN that a “restaurant ship sank off Temple Dock in London” after the alarm was raised at 12.30pm local time on Thursday.

Boats from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade attended the scene, the MCA said. “Everyone is fine,” he added.

A Bar & Co employee told CNN it was “possible.” [la] The storm will damage the ship.

Elsewhere in London, a canal in the east of the city overflowed on Thursday evening, leading to the evacuation of 50 people. Ten fire engines and about 70 personnel attended the flood site, according to the London Fire Brigade.

“Firefighters worked throughout the night to ensure the safety of the scene and evacuated several people from surrounding buildings,” said station chief Dan Capon, who was at the scene.

The British Environment Agency stated that flooding is expected to occur in seven rivers in London on Friday.

There are nearly 300 flood warnings across the country on Friday, with a further 323 flood warnings, meaning flooding is possible.
