A minor was arrested on charges of cutting down the “Robin Hood Tree”, one of the most famous trees in the United Kingdom

A 16-year-old teenager has been arrested after one of the UK’s most famous trees, a sycamore maple that grew nearly 300 years ago next to Hadrian’s Wall, built by the Romans in northern England, was found felled.

The sycamore tree became famous when it was featured in the 1991 film starring Kevin Costner “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” and became one of the most photographed images in the country.

Northumberland National Park officials said the sycamore tree, known as the “Robin Hood Tree,” was “deliberately cut down during the night.”

English County Police reported that a teenager had been arrested in connection with the events, which they described as an “act of vandalism.”
