Debate on artificial intelligence in sports science

Havana.- the use Artificial intelligence (AI) in applied sciences to high-performance sports was a topic of interest on Monday at the 10th International Convention on Physical Activity and Sport (Afide 2023).

In a crowded Hall 5 of the Palace of Congresses in Havana, Ms. Everardo Sanchez explained the possibilities that open up with the use of technology to learn about the human body, especially athletes.

The Colombian began his keynote address – at the 2nd International Symposium of Science and Sports – with a brief explanation of anthropometry and its importance in assessing conformation and body composition.

He then pointed out the importance of evaluating form with artificial intelligence and traditional forecasting methods, within a committee headed by Dr. Jorge Pavel Pino, Director of the Cuban Sports Research Center (CIDC).

Sanchez talked about the Phantom model and expanded on the calculations and results obtained for each indicator, among other things. “Data and information on human variables make it possible to diagnose the morphological condition and control the changes resulting from a program of physical activity, training or nutritional intervention,” he later said. He hits.

“It is used to evaluate children’s growth, obesity levels, effects of exercise on muscle contours, reduction in subcutaneous fat folds, etc.,” he added.

“It also allows us to measure different anatomical parts of the human body and the modifications that occur in a certain period of time, such as in strength and resistance processes. “And also in sports where muscle mass is important, just to cite some results of the analysis,” concluded the professor at Simón Bolívar University, in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The applause confirmed the interest of the conference that opened the session, where Dr. Pablo Emanuel Pasqualini, from Argentina, presented the conference on developing physical activity, physical education and sports, through cognitive educational innovation.

The program concluded its popularization work Strike area In the 61st National Baseball Series, as a result of the mathematical intelligence activity of Dr. C. Alfredo Rios, he was introduced Connected.
