Lusaka, November 27 (Prensa Latina) Reflecting on lessons learned in health and science and identifying the way forward for more resilient health systems will be the focus of the annual International Conference on Public Health in Africa that begins here today.
For the first time, the event will be held in person, after two previous virtual editions in 2021 in this capital and 2022 in Rwanda.
This is organized by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the Zambian Ministry of Health.
Leaders from across the continent will participate until November 30 in the conclave titled “Breaking Barriers: Repositioning Africa in the Global Health Architecture,” scheduled to take place in nine plenary sessions and several parallel events.
Pandemic preparedness and flexible financing mechanisms for Africa, enhancing local production of vaccines, diagnostics and treatments, strengthening and equitable health systems, and access to adequate health care for girls and women are some of the topics that will be discussed.
Likewise, health emergencies, biosecurity, climate change and multisectoral response mechanisms, digital innovation, mental health, infectious disease control, neglected tropical diseases, and antimicrobial resistance on the continent.
According to the Africa CDC, and building on last year’s invitations, the conference will show how the continent is breaking down barriers and reasserting itself as a force in science and innovation, a generator of new knowledge and health products, and an example of progress.
The publication stated that as African countries accelerate the realization of a new public health system, this appointment helps build a healthier and more prosperous Africa for the continent and the world.
