The Mar Menor Sailing Club event in Los Alcazares, organized in collaboration with the IKA (International Kitesurfing Association), EUROSAF (European Sailing Federation) and Univela Sailing, will represent an important milestone in the Mar Menor, since the media impact will be very high, both at the level of sailors who They will participate at the event or visitor level. It will also be a great showcase, not only of the lake or the city of Los Alcázares, but also of the Murcia region, putting it back on the global sailing map.
Selection system
The Mar Menor European Championship has a strict selection and participation system. The regatta is designed to prioritize quality over quantity for participants, which is why participation is limited to a “limited number” and closed by country and gender. These numbers are set at 150 sailors, 90 men and 60 women, with a long waiting list covering possible last-minute cancellations, through a strict arrangement of international and country classification.
The regattas can be followed live via live broadcast and will be broadcast on 170 television channels in 70 countries. They have a score of 100, which is the highest possible score in their category. Due to the new, moreover, feature of the Olympic Method, all participants have a multidisciplinary team that accompanies them in their boat races: coaches, physical trainers, equipment technicians, technical and organizational advisors, as well as many participants with technical assistance from brands of kite manufacturers. Or gliders.

With these numbers, and after the previous year’s statistics in the United Kingdom, the event in Los Alcázares, the “sailing-friendly city”, could exceed 500 people who will participate directly in the event, not counting the fans who will arrive from all over the world. Cross Europe to follow these high-level sporting regattas. The direct economic impact could exceed €1 million, both at the time of the competition and in the days leading up to it.
