According to a recent article in The Guardian, around 2 million UK households have had to turn off their fridges and freezers as a cost-saving measure, revealing the financial difficulties faced by low-income households.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) reported to the aforementioned outlet that nearly half of these families indicated that since May they had had to unplug their cooling appliances for the first time, revealing the continuing cost of living crisis among the most vulnerable families. .

The JRF’s Living Crisis Tracker survey found that in October, around 25% (2.8 million) of low-income UK households went into debt to buy food. In addition, he sold a third of his possessions to get money.

For this reason, the concerns of various anti-poverty charities focus on possible cuts in financial aid to low-income families, as the government is expected to freeze the value of aid starting next April. This could affect about 9 million families, and will worsen the situation.

Despite the aid provided by the government (about $15 billion), the reality is that 7.3 million families suffered from shortages of food and basic products in the past six months, according to data from the Jordan River Foundation.
