According to data released last week by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Costa Rica ranks third – among its members and acceding countries – for the highest growth in expansion of fiber optic networks.
In the past three years, Colby It has deployed more than 10,000 kilometers of optical fibers. According to recent figures released by SUTEL, the institute provides 78.2% of these links in Costa Rica.
Information from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development indicates that between 2019 and 2020, Costa Rica registered 62.2% growth, behind Israel (99.8%) and the United Kingdom (69.3%).
From February 2020 to January 2021, figures from the Costa Rica Institute of Electricity (ICE) show that kölbi fiber formulations have grown by 63% across the country.
This increase has linked a total of 789 local sites – in both urban and rural areas – and an expansion is expected to occur in at least 200 other communities, in the short and medium term.
The OECD numbers reflect our firm commitment to ensuring that Costa Rica has access to first-world technology through our optical fibers. “We have worked to provide the latest internet connection in all the cantons of the country, both for homes, SMEs and industries,” said Mauricio Rojas, Director of Communications at ICE.
The institute is progressing in expanding its fiber optic network through the many projects it is gradually implementing, connecting so far more than 210,000 homes, companies and companies, which allows it to ensure continuity of service in work-related activities, studies and work.
