The Port of Ipswich, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), Played a key role in supporting the completion of the heavy lifting of a new energy project in East Anglia.

This important project was undertaken by Allelys, a leading heavy and specialist transport company, and the Port of Ipswich, with its modern facilities and strategic location, facilitated this complex operation. Components, including generator, turbines and transformers, for the new power plant arrived at the Port of Ipswich from Rotterdam on board the general cargo vessel Wilson Flex III and were unloaded by Allelys.

These components are so important that it will take at least three consecutive Sundays, starting October 22, to complete the transfer from the Port of Ipswich, where the new power project is being built. Each load is approximately 80 meters (260 feet) long and weighs 500 tons (including trailer). This will be the largest abnormal load transported in Suffolk.

Paul Ager, Director, Ports Division, ABP“ABP Port of Ipswich is proud to have played a role in supporting this extraordinary operation,” he said.

“We are pleased to work closely with Allelys to ensure the project has run smoothly so far, and our support for this process embodies our commitment to facilitating major infrastructure projects for the region and the nation,” the executive said.
