The UK announces that HMS Forth is returning to the islands

HMS Forth, a British patrol ship deployed to the Falkland Islands, has successfully completed its first major maintenance period since commissioning five years ago, and is now heading back to the archipelago after a stay in Gibraltar.

HMS Forth arrived in Gibraltar in March last year, and after months of sea trials, training, and a new livery scheme, the ship was ready to return to the Falkland Islands.

Significant work was reported to have been carried out on the hull, engines and axles, as well as improvements to weapons and communications systems. Improvements to common areas and accommodations have also been completed.

HMS Forth’s Commander, Commander Easterbrook, commented: “HMS Forth has worked extremely hard over the past year, modernizing and improving our systems so that we can remain in top condition for another 5 years.”

During the period when HMS Forth was undergoing maintenance in Gibraltar, HMS Medway, which is frequently in the Caribbean, carried out patrol duties in the Falkland Islands.
