UDG: Design of the Environmental Science Museum was awarded

Environmental Science Museum (MC Algeria(from the University of Guadalajara)Odig) was awarded in “better future new York design Awards 2023” won the silver medal in the “Environmental Design” category, which is one of the most important international awards in the field of landscaping, with an emphasis on the contribution Sustainability Of projects. In this regard, MCA Director, Dr. Eduardo Santana Castellón, detailed the characteristics of the landscape project that earned him the recent international award.

“MCA’s landscapes in Jalisco, Mexico offer comprehensive interpretations of the museum’s narrative and its urgent mission to understand the city and inspire the conservation of the nature that supports it.”

Likewise, Dr. Santana Castellón highlighted the involvement of several authors in the landscape design of the Museum: “The award-winning landscape design is the author of the international architecture studio Snøhetta and is the product of a co-design process with the participation of neighbors and senior officials. School teachers, exhibition designers and thematic specialists of United Nations Habitat.

He emphasized that The design process ensured the inclusion of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Sustainable development goals) of the United Nations at different levels of depth in the museum landscape developed by different offices.

“The scientific/musical narrative was developed by the University of Guadalajara with support from Met Studio and the Think Design offices. The conceptual and executive landscape project, directed by Snøhetta, received significant contributions from Guadalajara studio Metroarquitectura. The virtual representations were prepared by Monolito Estudio. He explained that JSa and ZAP Studios were also involved in developing the landscape project.

The MCA director explained that the 2.6-hectare network of gardens surrounding the building constitutes the first educational exhibit visitors encounter.

“Wide corridors connect the large library buildings and lecture halls on opposite ends of the University’s Cultural Campus. Multiple entrances allow for easy access and flow of pedestrian traffic through the central ‘valley’ of the museum building.

The MCA will allow visitors to immerse themselves in the biocultural diversity of western Mexico in gardens featuring more than 450 species of native pines, oaks, tropical, coastal, arid, wetland and agricultural plants that create rich and distinctive sensory experiences.

Each garden and plant species tells a story about the place. Plants penetrate the central ‘valley’, climbing a 25-metre-high waterfall emerging from the building and reaching the roof, one of the most diverse waterfalls in the world, evoking the elevation gradient of more than four thousand meters found in the landscape. “Jalisco,” Santana Castellon explained.

With the “Best of the Future Design Awards New York 2023”, the MCA landscape project receives the third international award.

It has previously won the DNA Paris Design Awards 2023 in the category “Landscape Design/Parks, Public Spaces, Educational, Community and Leisure Facilities”, and the Architecture and Design Community Awards 2023 in the category “Landscape Concept for Cultural Heritage”.

The museum has received three awards and is among the most internationally recognized landscape projects in the state.
