On Friday, the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) is scheduled to host a conference on sustainable development in the areas of cultural heritage, information and the role of non-governmental organizations, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
José Kerbes, President of ICA, will participate in the High Carat Committee; Aparna Tandon, from the International Center for Studies in the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property; Emma Nardi, International Council of Museums.
Simon Musasizi, from the Climate Heritage Network, will also participate; Vicky MacDonald, International Federation of Library and Library Associations; and Faxon Banda, from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Before the meeting concludes, Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairperson and Director of the Board of Directors of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), a non-governmental organization of experts and sponsors, will also speak about the project. Under the theme “Enriching Knowledge Societies,” the ICA brought together nearly four thousand people from nearly 100 countries with the aim of promoting access to reliable information in the modern world and new emerging technologies.
According to the organizers, the event was a unique opportunity for exchange between archivists, librarians, records managers and other information professionals to exchange good practices, experiences and ways to address current challenges.
It has also worked to establish direct contacts with key players in the Middle East at a time of unprecedented interest in the areas of archival collection management and digital document preservation.
At the opening of the event, Kerbs highlighted the support of the UAE authorities for the management of international archives and archives around the world, and considered that this is the most important forum for institutions dedicated to the management of archives, documents and information.
The director of the National Archives of Luxembourg explained that as of Friday, more than 300 presentations, workshops and conferences had been given at the forum on topics such as emerging technologies, cultural heritage preservation, the impact of climate change, peace and tolerance.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Library and Archives of the United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Hamad bin Abdul Rahman Al Midfa, confirmed that this is the first conference of the International Council for Libraries and Archives to be held in the Middle East.
