The new program in the United States will save up to $5,000. Find out if you qualify

Soon in the United States, thousands of people will have the opportunity to receive up to $5,000.00 in their mailbox. This will be possible thanks to the state’s unclaimed property program.

In this sense, every citizen has the right to check if he has anything and the only thing he has to do is to check his mailbox.

Little is known about this topic, but each state in North America has a designated area to receive any type of money that its beneficiaries do not receive.

Here we can find tax refunds, money in abandoned bank accounts or stimulus checks that never reached their destination. Therefore, this “lost” money is known as unclaimed property.

Moreover, it would be very common for people to start receiving said money without knowing that it was always theirs.

In this sense, Illinois State Treasurer, Michael Frericks, announced that this state will begin sending payments to a certain number of people.

Meanwhile, more than 66,000 residents are in line to receive up to $5,000.00 from the state’s unclaimed property program. However, it is everyone’s responsibility to check if they have any unclaimed property.

What about the specific Illinois case?

In that case, lawmakers agreed to increase the automatic payment limit to $5,000.00. This is all thanks to a treasurer’s agreement with the Illinois General Assembly and in conjunction with the Money Match program.

The goal here is to allow faster payments to residents who are owed money through the Unclaimed Property Program.

Therefore, since the check shipment was announced in August, Enhanced Funds Matching Letters have been issued to 66,700 eligible residents.

Therefore, approximately $47 million is expected to be returned to residents through the program.

It is also true to point out that many eligible people have already started receiving $5,000.00 in their mailboxes. However, the amount they will receive will depend on how much money they have as unclaimed property.
