Specialists from the US Top Velocity Academy presented pitching clinics in Cuba on Tuesday and Wednesday, aiming to raise the level of knowledge of baseball pitching coaches on the island.
The theoretical and practical training developed at the Latin American Stadium in Havana was guided by Robert Michael García, an expert in promoting biomechanics in the entity created more than a decade ago.
According to their statements broadcast on Cuban television, during the two days they presented the Cuban coaches with “scientific studies, based on biomechanics, to improve the speed of shooters and reduce the risk of injuries.”
He added that the goal is to be able to apply this knowledge with Cuban shooters to improve their results.
The specialist recognized the historical talent of the island’s archers and highlighted their genes, which they could benefit from by improving their training.
40 throwing coaches participated in the clinic, and they were informed of the latest training methods in this field based on a combination of work based on applying science to improve performance, speed and avoid injuries.
In the practical aspect, which was also carried out in the symbolic Havana Park, a group of shooters participated, including members of the national teams preparing to face upcoming international commitments.
Top Velocity works with a program designed to improve the skills of players and prospects, especially in pitching and hitting. His methodology is designed based on the results of hundreds of scientific papers focused on improving pitching speed and hitters’ power.
Some reports have referred to the academy’s work as the most successful program of its kind in the world, even going so far as to claim that it is able to increase throwing speed from 5 to 10 miles during two to three months of preparation, based on biomechanics.
In this way, Cuba joins the countries in the region where this type of update has been introduced, along with Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
