More Cuban immigrants arrested in Mexico

About 300 illegal immigrants were arrested in Mexico, including an unspecified group of Cubans. This was announced by the National Migration Institute of Mexico (INM). The center added that the majority of detainees entered the country irregularly through the border with Guatemala. Official data confirms that among illegal immigrants, there are 120 people who constitute 51 family units. Likewise, 46 unaccompanied minors and 91 unaccompanied adults were detected.

The National Migration Institute noted on X, previously Twitter, that it had “identified 257 illegal immigrants.” They came from Guatemala, Honduras, Ecuador, El Salvador, Cuba and Brazil; “Everyone was transported in two buses on the Tuxtla Gutierrez-Puebla route.”

The aforementioned arrest took place on the Veracruz-Cordoba Highway. Mexican judicial authorities are already prosecuting the three drivers and two other people who allegedly carried out a migrant smuggling operation. The vehicles involved in the operation, namely two buses and a light car, are also being investigated.

Migrants waiting

People who had formed families, as well as unaccompanied minors, were transferred to a sports center in Cordoba. There they assessed their health status and awaited a resolution on their immigration status. Meanwhile, adults traveling alone must also wait for administrative action related to their individual cases.

A wave of migrants arrived last week in Tapachula, Chiapas state, looking for an appointment through the CBP One app to reach the United States. In fact, there are more than 20,000 irregular Cuban immigrants in this situation. They are stranded in the city awaiting, in many cases, proceedings with the Mexican Commission for Assistance to Refugees (COMAR) and the Mexican National Institute.
