G20 in India, a committed summit and Bali mentioned

New Delhi, the headquarters of the major event in which India holds the presidency of the bloc, will open its doors on September 9 and 10, decorated and warm, to leaders and senior representatives of the G20, in an attempt to create an atmosphere of welcome and welcoming. A fraternity that allows for fruitful discussions and decisive agreements on issues fundamental to the survival of humanity.

In the face of climate change, stronger and more resilient health systems must be created to control potential challenges, and strategies to ensure food and energy security in a world of increasing resource scarcity, among other aspects, as the meeting develops.

This is what the Asian country has been proposing since it inherited the leadership of a widely polarized bloc from Indonesia at the Bali summit in November 2022 at a time of unprecedented multidimensional crises.

In addition to the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, such as economic recession, increasing poverty, slowing down the global recovery and obstructing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, the aforementioned event in the Indonesian resort of the Russian special operation against Nazism in Ukraine was marked.

This geopolitical tension, involving members of the bloc such as the United States and the European Union who influence the prolongation of the conflict through continued political, military and financial support for the Kiev government, characterized the atmosphere and discussions of the conclave.

After six rounds of talks and more than 17 days of negotiations, the Bali summit culminated in a joint declaration, which included in its third point the condemnation of Moscow promoted by the United States and its European allies, even though the G20 is an economic forum. Commercial and not to solve security issues.

On the other hand, the 52-point text includes priorities such as a commitment to work for food and energy security; Efficient, fair and equitable trade, by addressing climate and biodiversity, strengthening health sectors in the face of new challenges and promoting digital transformation accessible to all, among other aspects.

India, currently in charge of the bloc, has endorsed these latter aspects, but with the added motivation of assuming the voice of the Global South, those countries underrepresented in the G20 that suffer the greatest impact of threats to the planet such as climate. Change, which keeps the majority of humanity in suspense.

Likewise, the countries of the South are in a worse position to face their recovery due to economic and financial inequality compared to members of the G20, which accounts for about 85 percent of the world’s GDP and more than 75 percent of international trade. A fact always worth repeating.

Currently, the summit is approaching, an event that summarizes more than 200 meetings organized by the Indian Presidency under the slogan “One Earth. Family. Future” that reflects, among other aspects, the criterion of the possibility of living together, despite differences, in a multipolar world with work Joint to save the human race.

Will the G20 be ready to accept this reality? In my personal opinion, there is not much hope in this regard, 17 sessions have already passed, and the commitments still remain; However, the differences are becoming more acute and the global outlook is worsening, but the final word will be in the final announcement from New Delhi.
