STEMbach’s premium baccalaureate in science and technology will reach around 750 students from all over Galicia next year

The Bachelor of Excellence in Science and Technology, STEMBach, will reach approximately 750 students next year, as evidenced by the decision published by Xunta with centers joining and continuing in the next academic year 2023-24 in this programme.

Xunta de Galicia first implemented this initiative in the 2018/19 academic year as a pilot experiment and has been standardized to reach the current numbers, with almost half a hundred participating centres.

This initiative is part of the digital education strategy, Edudixital 2030 and seeks to develop STEM skills through curricular content related to computational thinking and immersive technologies (such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence). In addition, it wants to promote students’ advocacy towards scientific and technological research, and to delve deeper into the work of mathematical skills, science, technology, and engineering through research elements and procedures and the scientific method, in a rigorous and orderly manner. very important.

It also facilitates the acquisition of transversal skills such as creativity, sense of initiative, entrepreneurship, problem-solving, teamwork, critical thinking, and global citizenship; As well as improving communication and expression skills, with a focus on communication and scholarly publishing, digital skills and the integration of artificial intelligence.

Investigation project

This educational program lasts for two academic years and students from any of the baccalaureate modalities can join it. Participants will develop a research project, in the second year of this phase, relating to any of the subject areas studied in the phase, which will be co-directed by a tutor belonging to a university department or research entity in Galicia and for which the student will present a defense of the work in session General.

Similarly, these students will take an extracurricular subject of study in depth related to a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), in the first and second year of their baccalaureate, with a weekly workload of two or three hours outside of the average student schedule.

Together with famous researchers

When these students grow up, they will carry out complementary training activities, organized by the Center in collaboration with universities, entities, research organizations or researchers with recognized competence, such as conferences, workshops or projects.

At the end of the two years of the project, and after a positive evaluation of both the extracurricular and the defense of the research project, the students will receive an accreditation from the direction of the center in which they carried out the studies corresponding to this programme. , which will also be recorded in your academic record.
