The arthroplasty patients will be cared for in the Falkland Islands in the UK
Spire Healthcare has been selected by the Falkland Islands Government as the UK’s private provider of arthroplasty (knee and hip replacements).
The Islands’ Director of Health and Social Services, Tom Bell, told the Legislative Assembly’s Medical Services Committee that the Executive Council had recently approved a document to contract for and fund an arthroplasty service for the benefit of these people, the chronically ill, with hip and knee injuries. Knee joint problems.
Bell added that the final legal details were being worked out and refined and it was hoped that those who had been accepted by the UK Outsourcing Service (responsible for the entire imaging and X-ray process to ensure safe interventions) would begin to be contacted later. Per day. Run the year and the day after. With a sustainable program also approved for the following years.
Bell said he wanted to especially thank John Wallacott, director of the hospital, KEMH, who has been a key proponent of leading and securing this arrangement.
He said that at present there were no plans for such surgical procedures in the Falkland Islands until a recovery hospital with private wards was completed, but it remained an aspiration for years later.
He also confirmed that there will be groups of about five people traveling at a time for arthroplasty treatments.

Meanwhile, in September, Chilean pediatrician Rodrigo Duran from Punta Arenas will make his first visit since the end of the pandemic. She will remain on the islands for two weeks and will also have a full clinic, the Health and Social Services Commission has been informed.
