Due to the international prestige of Peruvian food, the Faculty of Management Sciences (FCA) at National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) It announced that it was going to create the vocational school of gastronomy, in addition to the functions of marketing, marine and port business management.

Dean of Administrative Sciences Augusto Hidalgo SanchezI mentioned that these three new professions with high demand for labor will be implemented from March next year and will be part of the admission process that will take place at the end of 2023.

“The Faculty of Gastronomy has already been approved by the College Board and it is expected that by November, the approval of the three schools will already be obtained. With certainty, for the entrance examination in March 2024, the three schools will already be open,” he said in an interview with Andes.

The gastronomy school already has an infrastructure for its students and a new building to implement, details Augusto Hidalgo.

“With this school we want San Marcos University Enter the subject of gastronomy because we see a permanent, stable and predictable activity in which Peru already has a global profile,” he said of the decision.

“Gourmets of San Marcos will have to know a minimum of bromatology, that is, the science of food. And on this basis, build a career with technology, art and imagination, ”he added about the need to add the scientific component to gastronomy.

The dean noted that the creation of the Maritime and Port Business School is also due to the desire to contribute to the operation of the new multi-purpose Chancay terminal.

“By establishing this school, we hope to form a critical mass of highly qualified professionals at the international level to operate this huge port project and all its components, with the participation of a specialist from Peru,” he noted.

He explained that the field of work for graduates of this profession is present in all sea, river and lake port facilities in the country. In addition, since this discipline operates internationally with the same logic and technology, its professionals can also practice anywhere in the world.

“There is no demand based only on large projects and institutions, but also on entrepreneurs. With this profession, there will be opportunities for young people with a commercial vision to open and operate a maritime and port commercial entity, for example, those related to risks and insurance,” added Hidalgo.

In the case of commercialization, its creation is supported by the high demand for labor. “It is an occasional activity for all types of business, be it industrial, commercial, service, agricultural or international,” he said.
