Ukraine calls for accession to the Trans-Pacific Partnership – DW – 07/07/2023

Ukraine has officially requested its commitment to the Progressive and Comprehensive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP), as confirmed this Friday (07.07.2023) by official sources from New Zealand, the country that holds the presidency of this bloc this year.

Trade ministers and delegates from CPTPP member countries are expected to hold their seventh meeting of the committee in mid-July in Auckland, according to the ministerial website.

“Ukraine is the seventh economy to formally apply to join CPTPP, following applications from the United Kingdom, China, Taiwan, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Uruguay,” the email states.

CPTPP is a free trade network established in 2018 that includes 12 countries and a combined GDP of about 11.8 trillion US dollars (10.8 trillion euros), which is equivalent to 12.1% of the global economy.

The UK became the first country last March to commit to the original group of eleven Pacific Rim countries that made the agreement: Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and Canada.
