Elton John says goodbye to the UK with a brilliant presentation at Glastonbury

Sir Elton John will last perform in the UK at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2023 as part of his ongoing ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ tour.

The set of 20 featured fan favorites, live rarities, and many surprise guest appearances. To open the show, John performed his version of The Who’s “Pinball Wizard” for the first time since 2009. From there, he treated the crowd to “The Bitch Is Back,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Goodbye Yellow,” “Brick Road,” and “More .

Backed by Jacob Lusk of the Gabriels and the London Community Gospel Choir, John also performed the flick Are You Ready for Love for the first time since 2014. Other surprise guests include The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, who joins John on “Tiny Dancer” and Rina Sawayama, who joined in the duet “Don’t Break My Heart”.

Another notable moment came during “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” which John dedicated to George Michael on his 60th birthday.

The main group, which closed Glastonbury’s Pyramid Theatre, was Elton John’s first career booking at the festival. The performance also marked the finale for John’s UK leg and usher in the final leg of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which is heading to Europe for several dates rescheduled for 2020.

The Farewell Tour has delivered several noteworthy events since its launch in 2018 and is well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time. During his recent tour of North America, President Biden awarded the highly-awarded musician a National Humanities Medal and gave a star-studded performance at Dodger Stadium.
