LOS ANGELES – Building on the momentum of winning the Nations League for the second time in a row, the United States take on Jamaica for their defense of the Gold Cup title they won in 2021.
Soldier Field in Chicago will host this match that will open the group stage of the Gold Cup.
The United States starts as the main favorite in Group A, which also includes Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago (excluding Nicaragua), and St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Stars and Stripes were victorious in Final Four of the CONCACAF Nations League, crushing Mexico in the semi-finals (3-0) and defeating Canada (0-2) to win the title.
However, the USA team at that tournament is not much like the Gold Cup team since there won’t be any players competing in Europe for the event.
Thus, the United States will not have in the Gold Cup their brilliant attacking line of four players who shone in the League of Nations: Christian Pulisic), Tim Weh, Gio Reina and Folarin Balogun.
The offensive rescue comes Colombian-American striker Jesus Ferreira, who scored 10 goals for Dallas in Major League Soccer.
Coached by Icelandic Heimir Hallgrimsson, the Jamaican national team enters the Gold Cup with great ambition and aspirations and with goalkeeper Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union) as captain and key reference in the dressing room. At the Gold Cup, the United States beat Jamaica six times and lost only once.
