Bhutan warns of a rise in online scams targeting job seekers

In a letter described as highly dangerous by Bhutan Today, the government entity highlighted the increasingly frequent presence of fraudulent and unlicensed operators who are actively involved in recruitment and promotion of overseas business opportunities through social networking platforms.

The Foundation described the situation as alarming and strongly called on job seekers to exercise extreme caution and caution, and to thoroughly check the credibility and legitimacy of job advertisements before proceeding with any application.

According to a spokesperson for the agency, Zhireng Yangqi, a large number of unscrupulous people are turning to social networks as a way to catch unsuspecting people with attractive prospects for well-paying work abroad.

He said criminals frequently use tactics that include asking for fees upfront or convincing applicants to disclose sensitive personal information, exposing them to significant financial loss and risk of identity theft.

He said this disturbing trend calls for increased vigilance and serves as an urgent reminder for people to be very careful and check the authenticity of opportunities before falling victim to these malicious schemes.

He also urged seeking legitimate avenues for advice when exploring employment prospects, specifically recommending relying on authorized channels, such as registered recruitment agencies with a track record of integrity.

Likewise, urge them to contact the Employment and Entrepreneurship Department for reliable guidance and support.
