Colombia strengthens its relations with Barbados, South Korea, Cuba and Jamaica

Bogota, May 13 (EFE). – The Government of Colombia strengthened its relations with Barbados, South Korea, Cuba and Jamaica within the framework of the 9th Summit of Heads of State and/or Government of the Association of Caribbean States in Guatemala, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this Saturday.

Deputy Minister for Multilateral Affairs, Elizabeth Taylor Gay, met with Barbados’ Minister of State for Foreign Trade and Business, Sandra Azbands.

The Colombian official affirmed her country’s commitment to “strengthening common cultural and historical ties with the countries” of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

“I also confirmed the decision to reopen the Colombian embassy in Bridgetown, in order to continue working together for the reintegration of our peoples and the development of the region,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Taylor Jay also met with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin, to whom he expressed his gratitude for the country’s support in developing a comprehensive rural development policy.

He also met with Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Josefina Vidal, who reaffirmed her country’s commitment to peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the ELN guerrillas, whose third round of talks went properly. Now on the island.

On the other hand, Deputy Secretary Taylor presented the Caribbean strategy to Jamaican Secretary of State Kamina Smith, and affirmed Colombia’s commitment to continue working with Caribbean countries to address common challenges in the region.

The senior official also held meetings with the Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), Rodolfo Sabong, and with the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Carla Barnett, to whom she expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation to enhance the prospects of that region “on the world stage.” EFE
