Turkish sends two convoys to reinforce its forces in Syria

Damascus, April 11 (Prensa Latina) The Turkish army sent two ranks of vehicles to reinforce its bases and points in Idlib governorate, northern Syria, near the front lines of the forces of this Arab nation.

Local activists, reported by Al-Watan newspaper, stated that the first convoy consisted of 10 cars carrying soldiers and military and logistical equipment, and entered Syrian territory through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is under the control of illegal armed groups sponsored by Ankara.

This convoy, along with the second, consisting of 15 armored vehicles and personnel carriers, is heading to the Turkish military bases deployed on the front lines west and south of Idlib, especially on the strategic Jabal Al-Zawiya plateau.

According to the activists, the two convoys were guarded by militants of the Levant Corps group, Legión del Levante in Spanish, with Turkish sponsorship.

The importance of the Zawiya Mountain heights lies in the fact that they constitute the first line of defense for the highway between the cities of Aleppo and Latakia known as M4, which is under the control of extremist groups.

This same enclave houses 17 military bases and observation posts in Ankara.

Analysts say that these reinforcements contradict Damascus’ demands for the other side to schedule the withdrawal of its army from all Syrian regions, before starting a process of reconciliation and normalization of relations.

In Syria, Turkey maintains more than 110 observation points around the areas occupied by terrorists in the provinces of Hama, Idlib, Latakia, Aleppo, Raqqa and Hasakah.

More than 10 of these sites were withdrawn in 2021 because they are in areas under the control of the Syrian government, after the liberation of large areas in Idlib, Hama and Aleppo.

The Turkish military presence in Syria is described as an occupation by Damascus, which has urged the international community to end it.
