Ceuta hosted the SUP (Stand Up Paddle) tournament on Saturday mornings and SurfskiWhere more than 200 participants gathered from different points abroad.
It is an international event in the 2023 season of the EuroTour, one of the most important global circuits located around the world with prizes over €10,000. It’s the first time it’s celebrated in our city and that’s why it’s called “Battle for Hercules”, “Referring to the symbolic character of the city,” expressed Bellarmino Diaz, organizer of the competition.
From early morning, the Young and Amateur classes had their first SUP and Surfski outing from the town’s yacht club, passing through the royal moat under the royal walls until they reached shore from the river bank
city chief, Juan VivasAccompanied by Lorena Miranda and Alejandro Ramirez, consultants for youth, sports, development and tourism respectively, they came to greet the organization.
Around 12:30 p.m. the seniors, the elite of the sport, competed. They started from San Amaro Beach, passing through Santa Catalina, where the participants avoided the waves due to the meeting of the two seas. The path continued until it went around Monte Hacho to end again at La Ribera beach where the headquarters of the organization is fixed with many tents and workshops where they leave canoes and receive prizes.
Undoubtedly, this first competition for our city, which hosted athletes from all over the world, was a complete success. They came from the United States, Canada, Italy or the United Kingdom to compete in our waters and show their skills on the coast of Ceuta, where the storm gave a respite and a day full of emotions enjoyed by the fans of these water sports.
“The sensations were very good from the first moment, and it had an amazing effect,” said Rafa Jimenez, one of the coordinators of the event.
Jimenez is also the organizer of the logistics involved in the entire tournament, from the accommodations to the ferries, and noted that “for Ceuta it was a great show and exceeded expectations, little by little we learn and hope to complete this tournament celebrating it in our city”.
