Heading a delegation composed of the illustrious mayor of Cerro Navia, Mauro Tamayo, and other officials from that city, Bachelet identified the note sent by the Chilean mission.
According to the program of the visit, the former president and her accompanying delegation will attend the memorial ceremony tomorrow, which will be held at the headquarters of the Federation of Vietnam Friendship Organizations (VUFO) in the capital.
Later they will go to Chu Van An School to donate a canvas about nature by the famous Chilean artist Alejandro “Mono” González, a great friend from Vietnam, who in 2017 opened his other work, this ceramic painting.
On Monday, the Chilean delegation is scheduled to travel with the country’s ambassador here, Sergio Narea, to Nghe An and Binh Duong provinces, where they will hold friendship meetings and sign cooperation agreements with relevant authorities.
Chile and Vietnam maintain an excellent friendship, which rose to the level of basic partners in 2007, which was reflected in the numerous visits of heads of state and high-ranking authorities from both countries.
“It is very important that all Chilean presidents have visited Vietnam since 2003, and this is evidence of the historical and fraternal friendship that began in 1969 with President Ho Chi Minh and Chilean President Salvador Allende,” confirms the note from the embassy.
In trade matters, the two countries have reaped big benefits thanks to a free trade agreement that has been in place since 2014. In 2022, bilateral exports and imports total $1.8 billion, of which nearly 77 percent is Vietnam sales.
Chile exports salmon, fish oil, flour and table grapes to Vietnam.
Cherry, wine, lumber, cellulose, and metals such as molybdenum, lithium, and copper, while Vietnam sells phones, electronic circuits, shoes, furniture, machine parts, and clothing to Chile.
Both countries are active members of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Cooperation (APEC), and last month Chile became a full member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Agreement, which will open up more opportunities for economic integration.
Vietnam is currently Chile’s number one trading partner among the countries that make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), while the South American country is the fourth Latin American trading partner for this Indochina country.
