Mining authorities receive a delegation from the United Kingdom to address an important mining strategy.

The UK Foreign Relations Committee is conducting an investigation into clean energy production and electric vehicles.

Mines Minister Marcela Hernando, jointly with Under-Secretary-General Willie Kracht, welcomed the Foreign Relations Committee of the UK House of Commons, chaired by the chair of the body, Alicia Cairns, to discuss Chile’s critical minerals strategy.

After the meeting ended, Minister Marcela Hernando highlighted the government’s desire to “dialogue with all governments and companies interested in investing in Chile and being a partner of a country that has all the potential to continue being the most important critic of minerals in the country.” world.

“The meeting was very productive. We give them an overview of what our priorities are and also those things that we have set as our main targets in terms of manufacturing lithium and other critical metals,” he added.

For his part, Undersecretary of State Willy Kracht described the meeting as “interesting”, noting that “the two countries have common interests in terms of being able to face the challenges of climate change and each has different ways of being able to contribute in this direction.”

The chair of the Foreign Relations Committee in the House of Commons, Alicia Cairns, noted that “it has been extremely useful to have met the Minister for Mining and the Under-Secretary-General, to bolster our relationship which already represents 200 years of friendship, not only in that, but also because of the common interests we must reach.” to it in the future.

Cairns argued that “As you know, the UK has few important minerals, but Chile is rich in them. So, as the European Community, we are trying to understand how we can work to support Chile’s important minerals sector.”

After completing its visit to the country, the committee will prepare a report on the ongoing work on important minerals, given their importance in addressing climate change.

Critical minerals are those considered vital to the development of a country and which, due to their characteristics, are at high risk of interruption in their supply chain because the supply comes from very few mining regions or exporting countries. Therefore, what is considered an important mineral in an economy does not mean that it is a critical raw material in another country.
