The Ministry of the Interior (Minient) reported today that 108 irregular migrants who left the country illegally by sea, were returned to Cuba on Tuesday, January 31, in three operations carried out in accordance with bilateral migration agreements.
The repatriations were carried out from the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and by the US Coast Guard Service, the report, which was posted on the department’s official website, determined that the majority of the returnees are from the provinces of Villa Clara, Matanzas, and Ciego de Santos. Avila and Camaguey.
In the morning hours a plane arrived in Cuba from the Cayman Islands with 20 people on board (15 men, three women and two minors); Later, the US Coast Guard Service returned 50 more (42 men and eight women) via the port of Orozco, Bahia Honda, in the province of Artemisa.
Thirty-eight people (30 men, seven women and one minor) were repatriated from the Bahamas in the afternoon by air.
The ministry indicated that four of the total returnees in these operations were transferred to the investigation bodies for committing serious criminal acts that are being investigated since before their illegal departure.
With these, 23 returns have been carried out this year, involving a total of 1,901 people from the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Mexico, and by the US Coast Guard.
The Cuban authorities reiterate their commitment to regular, safe and orderly migration, insisting that they be warned of the danger and life-threatening conditions of illegal departure from the country by sea and irresponsible involvement of minors.
